Melrose V – Precast Concrete Project earns LEED Platinum and PCI Design Award for Sustainability
The Melrose Commons V project, located in South Bronx, NY, is a LEED Platinum certified development and winner of the 2009 Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) Award for Best Sustainable Project. It is the first total precast, affordable housing development in New York State to receive a Platinum rating in LEED for Homes. This five-story, 71,640 square foot affordable housing development, constructed with a total precast concrete building system, includes 63 units, ranging from 620 square-foot one-bedrooms to 1,355-square-foot three-bedrooms. Its green features include rooftop wind turbines, a basement co-generation system, recycled construction products and 100% ENERGY STAR appliances.
First NEXT Beam Bridge Project Awarded in York Maine
York, ME - The first Northeast Extreme Tee Beam (NEXT) has been awarded in Maine. The project in York ME is a seven span structure over the York River. It will involve the fabrication of 28 NEXT beams varying in length from 55' to 80'. The NEXT beam was developed by the PCI Northeast Bridge Technical Committee. NEW Lunch and Learn on Sustainable Design using Precast ConcreteSustainable Design using Precast Prestressed Concrete has just been approved for SD credit from AIA. Learning objectives included understanding how precast as a building material can contribute to sustainable structures.
