One of the fastest growing universities in the country, Quinnipiac University is committed to building one of the most environmentally friendly campuses in America. Their York Hill campus includes a wind turbine garden as well as more than 1,000 photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the 475,000 sf student residence hall that will convert energy from the sun. The project is making use of eco-friendly materials and resources in construction as well as a green roof terrace. The new residence hall will house 2,000 students and will enable the college to accommodate increased enrollment, and alleviate overcrowding in the current residence halls.
Oldcastle Precast Building Systems manufactured and installed 8-inch thick hollowcore plank totaling 2,061 pieces as well as precast concrete beams and solid slabs. Nearly 500 wedge-shaped solid slabs were used to accommodate the unique geometry, as well as the same number of precast beams.
